Connecting AIR with BlazeDS and Spring

Last week I've shown you how to connect a Flex application to a java Spring application using BlazeDS. As you might have read everywhere changing your Flex web application to an Air client side application is very easy. So let's take our Flex application that is connecting to our Spring application using BlazeDS and change it to an AIR application working exactly the same. I'm using the sources here that were created in the posts BlazeDS and Spring First what we need to do is create a new AIR project in Flex, so let's start with creating a new Flex project and on the first page of the wizard there change the setting to Desktop Application.

FLUGR Site

Today the FLUGR, dutch Flex user group site has been released. Tomorrow it will be publicly announced at the J-Spring event. This is a site for FLEX, AIR, Blaze DS developers. The content will mostly be directed about these subjects and anything that has to do with using these programs including the integration with a lot of different back end systems like Java, ColdFusion and Ruby. The user group will be hosting it's first event in June of this year. For more information check http://www.flugr.nl

Flex Map View

For a big project I've been working on I've implemented the Yahoo Map to an application. The API and more information can be found at http://developer.yahoo.com/flash/maps/. I've implemented this in an existing application and added all needed functions to it that were needed. I've attached an Air version of the application for download if you want. As you might know you can use your flex source in an air project and without changing any code it will run, the only difference in code is the tag, in an air version this is the tag. This air version also has View Source enabled for you to see all the sources. One thing that is not added with view source is the Yahoo API, if you want to use this you have to download it yourself at the yahoo site. When you include it you have the full source of the application.

FLUGR

Last month the new forum site of FLUGR (Flex Usergroup) was also released and is now reachable at the url http://flugr.org. This forum is mostly directed to the European market, but of course anyone can join, add questions or respond to questions there. At this moment we are working hard to get the website for the usergroup online, but this might still take a few days. At first the usergroup itself will be directed to the dutch audience but like the forum, we want to go a little wider and see that we can get a more international audience to join.

Flex 3

Last month Flex 3, Air and Blaze DS were released, I was the lucky one to give the Beta training for Flex 3 as a start of Adobe University here in the netherlands. The training was a success again and got me the chance to learn about the new features of Flex 3, not all of these were part of the training but still there are quite a lot of new features to use. I had the time in the week after the training to be part of the last week of Adobe University where the subjects were Livecycle and Cairngorm. After a long time of Alpha and Beta versions Adobe Air was also released so there were a lot of new releases that month to play around with.
